I Had Braces About 7 Years Ago. Now My Teeth Are Moving Apart And They Hurt At Night. What Should I Do To Fix This?

Monday, April 28th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I hope you can advise me. I previously had braces about 7 years ago, I had two teeth taken out from each side. Recently my teeth have started moving apart and I now have a gap in my two front teeth which seems to be increasing over time. My teeth sometimes hurt during the night and the gap in my teeth is increasing. Which is the best treatment you would suggest for me to close the gaps? I am happy to pay for it.
Thank you for your time.

I Broke My Tooth Recently And I’ve Been Advised To Have A Bridge Or An Implant? Which Would You Advise?

Thursday, April 24th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I had broke my tooth a few days ago and went into my local NHS dentist and was told that the tooth is totally damaged, he could fill this with fillings but it won’t last very long and the other option is removal? I opted for the removal as this colour was totally discoloured from the filling and was ruptured as well.

I have been now advised to look at options of bridge or implant. Both teeth on either end of the missing tooth have a slight filling on them. What would you recommend I should do? I would appreciate your advice, could you also tell me what the cost implications would be for what you would recommend it. I was also told that I can have temporary dentures but will need to wait for at least 6 months till I decided which option to take as my bone needs to breath!

I Have Been Told That I’m Going To Lose All Of My Teeth. How Much Does It Cost To Have Them Replaced?

Thursday, April 17th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I have had dental issues for many years and at my last appointment I was told that my teeth will fall out sooner rather than later (apparently my gums are not so healthy). That was about 9 months ago and I am yet to lose any teeth. I want to replace all my teeth with new ones so that I am able to progress in the entertainment industry. What I would like to know is, how much is a procedure such as this likely to cost? Thank you. I hope to hear from you soon.

I Had An Apicoectomy Last Week. Will My Gums Grow Back And How Long Will It Take To Heal?

Thursday, April 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had an attempted apicoectomy last week. He cut a lot of my gum to expose tooth number 19. Because of an infection the Dr felt he did not want to take any more bone away and I should go the implant route. He closed me up. My gums along the tooth and teeth 20 21 22 are very exposed and sore. I feel as if the roots are partially exposed like I had significant recession. Will this gum grow back and what should I do if it doesn’t? I am in quite a bit of pain at the moment. Could you help me and tell me what I should do. Thank you.

After A Gum Infection My Dentist Said My Tooth Has Five More Years Left. What Should I Do?

Wednesday, April 9th, 2014
Q.

Dear Mark. I had a root canal on my upper front tooth. This tooth had a plastic material fitted as it was half broken 10 years ago. How long do I have to wait before I can have a porcelain crown fitted on the tooth, as the gum has a visible gap and there is some significant aesthetic damage? Also the dentist left me with a gum infection to deal with and said my tooth has five more years and that I would need an implant. What is the best thing to do as I am a young and attractive and this is getting me down?
Many thanks.

How Long After A Tooth Extraction Do I Have To Wait Before I Can Have An Implant?

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I have just had a tooth extraction because of a failed root canal where the tooth actually fractured causing discomfort and my only option was an extraction as I was informed. I was wondering how long it would be before I would be able to have an implant? It is one of my upper molars. The thing is you can see the crater when I smile, and I usually smile a lot because visually I have lovely straight teeth and white too, so could you advise me on the best course of action regarding this. Are there any treatment types that could work? Thank you.

Am I Too Old For Implants?

Monday, March 17th, 2014
Q.

Hello there, I wondered if you could help me with my problem. I am a sixty-one year old woman, and have had two large gaps on either side of my lower jaw since I was a child. I have experimented with dentures in the past, but I found them to be an inconvenience to me. Would you say I was too old for dental implants, and are my gums too thin to have implants fitted? A big problem I have is that I find that I struggle when it comes to chewing food, and have always wanted to have my teeth sorted out professionally. I do not have many teeth, and I would really like to have a full set of working ones! Thank you.

What Alternatives Are There To A Bridge?

Monday, March 17th, 2014
Q.

Hi. When I was younger, it was discovered that I had no “adult teeth” growing under my bottom two centre milk teeth, so I had them removed. I had a brace fitted to close the gap and another brace on my top teeth to straighten and close gaps. Unfortunately, at the time, I didn’t regularly wear the retainer to keep them in place so now my teeth have come apart again. I had a bridge fitted to the gap at the bottom but the gums behind the supporting teeth seem to get swollen and sore regularly. What would you recommend as an alternative to the bridge, and more importantly the gaps and alignment at the top? I was thinking lingual braces at the top would be best for me but I have quite small teeth. Kind regards.

I Have A Missing Tooth Which Was Knocked Out Five Years Ago. Could I Have A False Tooth That’s Permanent?

Tuesday, March 11th, 2014
Q.

Hi Andrew. I currently have a missing tooth which was knocked out around five years ago, I am currently twenty years of age and it is really affecting my confidence, it is a front tooth and is on the top row. Do you know if I could have a false tooth that’s permanent and if so how much would it cost? Any information on all possibilities would be a welcome help. Also if I do eventually have a false tooth will a teeth whitening programme affect the tooth in any way? Thank you for your time and consideration.

My Crown Keeps Falling Out. What Can I Do If The Gap Is Too Small For An Implant?

Thursday, March 6th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I have a small crown next to my front tooth which I have had for nearly 20 years, which keeps falling out. I have been told the gap is too small for implants or screw in teeth. What are the options I have? If I have to keep it what is the best way of making sure it stays attached to my other teeth as it is very embarrassing.  It is right at the front of my smile. It has been stuck in with cements three or four times but they don’t seem to be able to secure it. Thank you for your reply in advance.
