My gums are swolen and i am on Phenytoin for Epilepsy

Thursday, September 25th, 2008
Q.
Good Evening, Being on medication for Epilepsy for years my teeth and gums are not in very good shape. I have had no seizures for 2 years and i am currently still taking Phenytoin 100mg once a day. My gums are inflammed, teeth pushed forward which can sometimes hurt when brushing. I understand the medication has done this, and know i am at an age and in a professional position i would like to know if i can improve my smile and boost my confidence more. Is there any advice you can share with me? I am also not a very comfortable person when it comes to dentistry too. Many Thanks

smoking has caused my teeth to fall out and become stained

Monday, August 18th, 2008
Q.
After many years of smoking, my teeth are badly stained and recently a bottom tooth has come out. The rest of my lower teeth are loose and I have been told that my gums are receeding. Could you please advise me of the appropriate treatment that I need. I also have a fear of dentists but I can no longer go on like this as it is affecting my confidence. Thanks

I am a diabetic and have gum disease

Sunday, August 17th, 2008
Q.
Hi, I am a diabetic and have been very nervous of dentists for years and I had been putting off going. I plucked up the courage to go two weeks ago and the Dentist told me I have gum disease. Today the Hygenist told me that the bone is not where it should be on my front tooth, and is lower than normal. She said it should hopefully be ok with hygiene visits etc. I am very scared of what the outcome will be. If the tooth did have to be removed how quickly could I have a replacement fitted(don’t want to look in the mirror and see a huge gap) and what the best options are in cases such as mine? I am very, very nervous of dentists as it is but losing my front tooth fills me with fear and has dented my confidence massively. Please can you offer me some advice to put my mind at ease? Many thanks

My veneers were fitted too close to my gumline

Sunday, August 17th, 2008
Q.
I have had veneers fitted which look good. but unfortunatly after a few months i have had a bad gum infection above my front teeth, my front and side tooth were previously damaged with a fall 10 years back. I have been advised the veneers are fitted to close to the gum ridge and as yet my dentist doesnt want to change them over yet, any suggestion as i now seem to be in constant on off niggling pain around mainly the orignal teeth which were damaged any suggestions

I have a triangle between my front teeth

Thursday, August 14th, 2008
Q.
Hi there, I have suffered from gum disease which has left a space between my two front bottom teeth (where my gum used to be) in the shape of a triangle. Is there anything that can be done to close the triangle or reduce the size? Would veneers help?

treatment for periondotal disease on NHS

Tuesday, August 12th, 2008
Q.
Ive been told that i have got periondotal disease i have lost one upper front tooth because of this but i wear a partial denture. its my lower 6 teeth im concerned about they are all out of allignent the two middle ones have pushed forwrd and the others either side are longer and my gums have reeceded i have asked my local dentist to extracted my lower 6 teeth but she wont do this on the nhs , so im thinking if i go privately how much would this cost for me to have 6 teeth extracted and have a fixed bridge put there in place my life would be so less complicated. thankyou for your tme.
