Could a Spring Aligner Close the Gap in My Teeth?

Thursday, September 22nd, 2016
Q.

Good day. I am 26 years old and have a 2 mm midline diastema. Can a spring aligner (removable appliance) be used to close it? I was going to get braces but a dentist I met at the clinic suggested the spring aligner option and I have been researching it since.
They suggested it because they didn’t understand why I wanted braces (all my other teeth are well aligned etc.). When I told them I wanted to close my gap they suggested it.
N.B. I have tried doing a bonding trial, however it made my teeth look bold and unnatural and the Inman Aligner is not done by any dentist where I’m from.

Can a Gap in My Teeth be Reduced by Veneers?

Friday, May 20th, 2016
Q.

I was born without the right lateral tooth and always had a gap between my front teeth. Now I am too old for braces and I had a rear molar removed in the back upper and the two front teeth have shifted over further, so much that the one front tooth is almost in the place that the lateral tooth should be in, so it is set back. I want to do veneers or Lumineers, but I am not sure what can be done. Please help. I went for a consultation and an orthodontist confirmed I am too old to start shifting teeth around but I already knew that. I left that practice because there was no alternative solution given, except root canal on a perfectly healthy tooth to shave down the length. I believe the gap can be lessened by veneers and if not corrected totally.

What Can Be Done About the Gap of a Missing Tooth Whilst Waiting for an Implant?

Tuesday, May 17th, 2016
Q.

I need to have left front tooth and one to the left removed due to bone loss (I am under Eastman’s and fanatical about hygiene). However, being a wimp I am struggling with the thought of having the gap – apart from temporary plate, can you suggest ways of coping in the interim of a possible implant, i.e. how do you look in the mirror? I know they need to come out and I am all for it but I can’t get over the distress over what a two teeth gap will look like – I am not vain, but distressed and do not want to talk funny.

What is the Best Way to Close a Gap in My Teeth?

Friday, May 13th, 2016
Q.

I have a large gap between my 2 front teeth (about 5mm wide) with a piece of skin hanging down between the teeth. What would be the right steps to take in closing the gap fully? I know I will have to have a frenectomy but I don’t know what to do after that because it is such a wide gap. Would it be better to get braces or Invisalign or would cosmetic surgery (veneers) do the trick? Although I have read it’s not usually practical to close such a wide gap with veneers as it can make the front teeth look very wide and unnatural. I’m looking for the quickest (less than 1 year) and cheapest method. Any ideas please?

Will a Removable Device Help to Close the Gap in My Teeth?

Wednesday, May 20th, 2015
Q.

Sir
I am 39 years old. I have a gap between my side teeth, not the front ones, on the lower jaw.The gap is about 2-3mm wide. This gap has appeared gradually with time. Please can you suggest a suitable remedy for me? Do removable appliances work? For how long each day should they be worn? Actually, I have been wearing one for about 2 months and I wore them the whole night but can’t afford to wear them every night. I’ve had no visible results so far.

Would a Hawley Retainer Close the Gap In My Teeth?

Monday, April 20th, 2015
Q.

Hello. I have always had a little gap between my front teeth (the upper big ones). So I was thinking about wearing Hawley retainers, could they close a gap that is about 1.5 mm long? I don’t have any more problems with my teeth, and if it could help how long would it take to get at least a minor result (for example a 0,5mm moving)? This is urgent, so I would like you to reply as soon as possible. I don’t want to wear braces because they’re too expansive and they’re fixed onto my teeth and I don’t want something like that. Thank you.

How Can I Fix a Slight Gap Between My Teeth?

Tuesday, November 4th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I had braces for two and a half years and they have been off now for six years. I wear my retainer every night. But on my front two teeth, if I put my nail between them, there is a very slight gap. This bothers me because it seems they are not as tightly together as they once were. I don’t want the gap to get bigger and I don’t want braces again! But it isn’t that bad. I mean it is very small, but it matters to me. Why would this happen? What can I do to fix it? I know I need a new retainer made but will that fix it? Thank you.

Do I Need Dental Surgery to Correct My Protruding, Gapped Teeth?

Thursday, October 30th, 2014
Q.

Hi, Dr Hughes. My age is 24, and I am male. My upper incisors are not straight, they protrude forward. There is also gap between my incisor and my canine. What can be done to correct it? Is there any dental surgery? Also, I have one doubt in my mind. My grandmother died from oral cancer, will surgery affect any prospect of developing cancer of the mouth?
Can I wear braces at my age? In my childhood I wore braces, at that time there was lot of improvement but it has become embarrassing again now. What would be the correct treatment for me?

My Wisdom Teeth are Causing a Lot of Pain. What Can I Do?

Wednesday, October 29th, 2014
Q.

Hello,

A few months ago, I went to the dentist as my wisdom teeth were causing a lot of pain. They took x-rays and found out that all four of my wisdom teeth were growing wonky and into the teeth in front. They said as the teeth have not yet broken the gums, there is not anything they can do yet.

Recently, my wisdom teeth have become painful again and is very uncomfortable. I have also notice a gap appearing between my two front teeth which is causing the skin inside my mouth to become sore as it keeps getting caught in the gap and is making sores in my mouth. I don’t know what to do as it is very painful but I do not want to go back to that dentist as they have said they won’t do anything.

Please can you let me know what can be done as I am worried the gap is just going to get bigger and my wisdom teeth more painful.

Thank you.
