Any disadvantages of six month smile over traditional braces?

Monday, November 30th, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am 41 years of age and have been to a couple of people to help me straighten my teeth. 1st was an orthodontsist who has offered to fit traditional braces (tooth coloured upper, and steel lower) which should take approx. 12 months. 2nd was a dentist who has took on the 6 month smile method (which would be tooth coloured upper and lower). Is there any disadvantages of the 6 month smile method against the traditional, and how would I be able to find out if the dentist is suitably qualified?

Six months braces is not effective and I cannot afford it to be redone.

Q.
I had 6 months braces on my teeth about 3 years ago. They were bonded or rather should I say that the top front and bottom front has a wire holding them together so that they would not shift. But the front of my top teeth are moving and shifting. What should I do? My husband just passed away and I really can’t pay for 6 months braces again. Can they use the retainer that I had when the braces were removed ?

I need a cost effective treatment to straighten my front teeth.

Q.
Dear Dr Caplan, I am 23 and had braces as a teenager. However, since my wisdom teeth came through, my front two teeth are no longer straight. The left one has been pushed out and I look pretty goofy as a result. I find it quite upsetting. The rest of my teeth are fine. What kind of treatment could help? I do not have much money. Thank you.

Can cosmetic dentistry help my teeth look natural?

Friday, November 27th, 2009
Q.
An accident in my childhood knocked out my front tooth and chipped the took next to it, I am now 17 and the nhs has still not fixed my teeth yet which is distressing as I am meeting new people at college and i find it embarrassing, although i am now in the process of wearing a brace which I started wearing may this year, the plan is that they eventually place a bridge between my existing front tooth and my chipped one but this is only short term as I’m not 18 yet and cannot get a tooth drilled in. however I was wondering what my long terms options are for when i am older apart from getting a tooth drilled in, as I am worried that neither a bridge or a false tooth is going to look quite the same as real teeth, is there any other options that may look more attractive, and if so how much are they likely to cost? And what is the best option? Thank you

Even after two fixed braces my two front teeth still protrude.

Q.
Hi Julian I had a fixed brace fitted as a teenager (13) to correct my protuding front teeth. The orthodontis removed my fixed brace after approximately 1.5yrs and i was left with a gap between my LHS canine & semi molar where teeth were extracted.Twenty years later I had another fixed brace fitted to close the gap. After two fixed braces my two front teeth still protude. What other options do I have to correct my teeth.

I would consider even extreme treatment for straightening my front teeth.

Thursday, November 26th, 2009
Q.
Hey i was interested in knowing if there is a way of straightening my front teeth without braces. The main problem is my 2 front teeth are protruding out more than the rest of the teeth which is causing me to not smile or have a conversation with people as much, and braces would just intensify this problem for longer. im open to all suggestings, even the extreme to help solve this issue. Thank you.
