My Teeth Are Very Sensitive And Discoloured, Is Whitening Toothpaste My Best Bet?

Wednesday, April 3rd, 2013
Q.

I am 62 years old and have lost the enamel off my teeth; I have been informed this is due to eating too much fruit.
I am very embarrassed to talk let alone smile, due to the dark colour of my teeth.
I am due to attend a very important wedding soon and I am so worried about my teeth that I am now considering having them whitened.
I do have sensitive teeth and use Sensodyne toothpaste but I believe the whitening process increases sensitivity and am a little concerned about that.
I would truly appreciate your comments please.

I’m Not Happy With My Treatment, What Should I Do?

Friday, January 18th, 2013
Q.

Please give me some advise. I had to finally have some crowns replaced and decided to have cosmetic work also. It was very important to me to keep a natural looking smile I wanted to keep my two front teeth longer and wanted at least the same white as before. my teeth were all cemented in on top and the 2 front teeth were too short. also, I thought the color looked grey – I did not like the way they looked. After complaining he redid the front 2 teeth – said they made a mistake and they were too short. I decided to go ahead and do the 6 veneers in the front bottom . I am ok with them as they seem brighter and prettier than the crowns on top. yesterday I finally had the nerve to call and talk to the dentist. He said he would get back with me once his computers were back up. I still have not heard from him. I am making myself sick and keep looking in the mirror – they just seem dull and almost grey. I have paid over 40,000 – please tell me what to do.

How Can I Whiten My Teeth? I’ve Tried Everything!

Monday, January 7th, 2013
Q.

Hello Doctor Hughes! I have discoloured teeth and I really want to whiten them and I have tried lots of different methods but so far, nothing seems to work. I also broke my two front teeth down the middle, and had to have fake teeth fitted in their place so I have had to have fake teeth there. But I have tried everything! I have used countless whitening toothpastes, whitening strips, and even baking soda. NOTHING WORKS! I need help, my teeth are like kinda yellow and I don’t like the way they look and it really bothers me. I look after my teeth and consider to have good oral health. At the moment I am brushing my teeth like four times a day with whitening toothpaste, and I floss twice a day. Help me please! I look forward to reading your response. Thank you.

I suffered from Bulimia in the past and this has affected my teeth, what can I do to fix them?

Wednesday, December 5th, 2012
Q.

Good Morning,

I wanted some advice on veneers and prices. My two front teeth at the top looked cracked and are slightly discoloured. This has been a result of Bulimia in the past. What can I do to rectify my teeth, as am worried about there appearance and are they weak and will they fall apart without veneers. It is only those two teeth I am mainly worried about as they look the worst. I have my bulimia under control but need to sort out the appearance of my teeth. I am also on a very strict budget so need to look at all my options, but if I dont get my teeth done they physical appearance of them looks even more depreessing to me.

Many thanks

Why are my teeth yellow after whitening treatment?

Wednesday, October 31st, 2012
Q.

I had my teeth whitened using custom made trays from my dentist. I was bleaching my teeth overnight with 10% & 16% carbamide gel for 3 weeks. My teeth looked great, but 24 hours after finishing the treatment, two front teeth are streaky and discoloured ( yellowish streaks and yellowish stains along the very edge of my teeth. I ate WHITE food only and brushed after every meal. Further bleaching will remove all the staining, but every time I stop, the same thing happens. Only my upper teeth are affected.

My veneers keep falling off, what permanent solutions are available for me?

Friday, August 31st, 2012
Q.

hello i have two composite veneers on my two front teeth as they broke in half a while back. i have been having a problem as every time they have fallen out iv asked to have something a bit more permanent and i have had this problem since i was 18 and it’s getting too much! i am now 24 and i am just wondering if there is some reason my army dentist wont give me something that will last longer? he told me to never use my front teeth or they would come out and not being able to eat with front teeth is quite difficult with certain foods. he can’t expect me not to use my front teeth can he? also they discolour very fast witch is not a good look at all. thank you for your time and i look forward to hearing back from you.

Will I need dentures before I am 50?

Tuesday, July 10th, 2012
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. I have had advanced gum disease for about 20 years owing to my fear of going to the dentist, previous traumatic experiences at the dentist and poor hygeine. At the age of 42 I have now fortunately overcome my fear and found a lovely gentle dentist and I am now having regular checkups and hygeine sessions. I also been referred for and have undergone peridontal treatment in the last two years, and I am maintaining good dental hygeine every day. However my degree of gum disease has led to a significant amount of bone loss. I currently have most of my teeth, but many of my upper teeth are loose and my dentist does not hold out much hope for me holding on to them long term. I have a crown on one front tooth, and a veneer on the other front tooth. My gums have receded so far that the crown peg is visible now and the tooth with the veneer is similarly receded, exposing the part of the tooth which originally would have been hidden in the gum. My other top front teeth are discoloured and gappy and I am very self conscious about my teeth. My bottom teeth are reasonably secure. I really would like some advice about what to do next. My dentist is reluctant to replace my front veneer as the tooth is already loose and he doesn’t want to disturb it further. My crown will have to be replaced shortly I think. I would like to know what the options might be for someone like me who has significant bone loss. Are implants out of the question, or am I really now facing the prospect of wearing dentures before I am 50? I would really appreciate your advice regarding my options and the possible costs involved if implants could be an option – at least for my top front teeth.

Many thanks.

I’m 16 and I have bad teeth, I can’t afford veneers so what are my options?

Thursday, June 28th, 2012
Q.

Hello dr moore. I am 16 years old and i am really suffering because of my very bad teeth. They are very discoloured despite me trying lots of different tooth whitening treatments, I also have an overbite and individual teeth lay on top of each other or are crooked meaning they are chipped too. There are just soo many problems and now I really hate smiling and meeting new people. I asked my dentist about braces and she said I would have to pay because I am not classed as a severe case as I only want them to “look good”. As you can tell this is really upsetting me because my self esteem is so bad. I can’t afford veneers so what can I do?! Please give me some advice!
