Is Teeth Whitening That Uses Peroxide Safe?

Monday, October 19th, 2015
Q.

Hello there. I would like to whiten my teeth, which are quite discoloured. I do not smoke so I guess it’s age and tea drinking mainly! (I am 65yrs old). Most dentists use peroxide based systems, but some people say these damage the teeth enamel. Are these chemicals safe to use or will they possibly damage the enamel in the long term? There seem to be some articles that suggest peroxide should not be used. Thank you.

How Can I Get the Perfect Celebrity Smile?

Wednesday, February 4th, 2015
Q.

Hi there. I’ve always had trouble with my teeth since the age of about six when I got about 13 baby teeth taken out as they were discoloured and rotten due to the amount of fizzy juice I drank. I was wanting to look into getting white veneers as my current teeth are a bit discoloured and one front tooth is broken in two places, and I’ve also had root treatment on that tooth too. I’m basically looking to get the “perfect celebrity” white smile. What would your advice be?
Many thanks.

Which Veneers Would Be Best for Me?

Wednesday, January 14th, 2015
Q.

Hi there Dr Hughes. Please can you tell me which veneers I would need? I am on a small budget but require veneers for two of my teeth on either side.

I want something that will last and I am also a coffee and tea addict. My teeth are discolored and it is getting me down. One of my front teeth has a cap on it and I’m not sure if I am able to wear veneers. Also does it hurt? Is there any way I’d be able to get free help? I also have an exemption card. Please can you let me know the cost thanks again?  Many thanks.

Hello. I Like The Shape Of My Teeth But Not The Colour. What Would Be The Best Treatment For Making Them Nice And White?

Thursday, October 23rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Gambroudes. I like the nice shape of my teeth but I just hate the colour – they are more yellow than white. I was just wondering what would be the best option to make them look nice and white? I’m not looking for whitening treatment – I would be rather interested in any other permanent option like for example veneers – but now sure if this is the best option for a person like me or if there is something else? Thank you.

My Teeth Are So Sensitive I Can’t Get Them Whitened. Why Does My Dentist Tell Me That My Teeth Are Healthy?

Friday, September 26th, 2014
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes. I have extremely sensitive teeth which causes severe pain in my face. They are also crooked & discoloured causing me embarrassment & I am really self conscious about them. I can’t whiten them as they are so sensitive. My front teeth are also moving as I am developing a gap in between them that I have never had before. My dentist isn’t very good & offers me no advice just saying there is nothing wrong with them. I have got to the point where I actually want them removing & replacing with natural looking dentures. Is this possible when I have, according to my dentist ‘healthy teeth’?

My Young Daughter’s Teeth Are Decaying And Discoloured. Is There Anything That Can Be Done For Her?

Friday, August 8th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Patel. My daughter who is 4, has two front teeth that are worn and very discoloured and unsightly looking, I understand these are her baby teeth, but she is already self conscious about them and won’t smile. She also has three back teeth that are decayed and I believe this is due to drinking milk in the night. Is there anything that can be done for her? Her front teeth in particular are chipped and worn with
a thin bit of tooth remaining that makes it look like she has one thin tooth in the centre! As she is now affected by her appearance which is worrying as she is only four! Your opinion is greatly appreciated.

Kind regards.

I’m 63 Years Old And I’m Looking For Advice. My Top Teeth Are In A Bad Condition. Is It A Waste Of Time To Seek Treatment Options At My Age?

Monday, July 14th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I am 63 years of age and have wore a denture since I was only 12. I had my front three teeth taken out after they had discoloured after banging into a lamp post. In those days that’s what they did. Through wearing a denture all this time my other top teeth are in bad condition. I suppose at my age it is probably a waste of time doing any thing much, but emotionally I have had my fair share of misery regarding my teeth and I need to some expert advice. What you think would be the best option? Many thanks.

My Teeth Are Discoloured And This Bothers Me. What Are My Best Affordable Options For This?

Wednesday, June 11th, 2014
Q.

My teeth are not the best they are not straight but I don’t mind that but they are very discoloured from medication as a child. My dentist says I have very good health teeth but the colour bothers me so much that I very rarely go out and when I do I try wear something that covers my mouth. I haven’t been in a photo in 2 years because I’m to ashamed of what my teeth look like. And the worst thing I do is mumble a lot so that people don’t see my teeth as I’m talking. It has been a few years now that they have been discoloured and it really effects my confidence when going anywhere because I always think that people are looking at my teeth and talking behind my back about it saying look at his teeth if you don’t brush yours they will turn out like that even though I do brush and floss. I work full time in a call centre so that no one can see my teeth. I do have a okay wage but no where near enough to afford thousands of pounds or all new teeth. So is there anything that could be done through the NHS or anything else?

I Have Discoloured Teeth And My Gums Are Weak. I’m Not After A Hollywood Makeover, I Just Want To Know What Can Be Done?

Tuesday, May 13th, 2014
Q.

Hello Andrew. I am in my fifties and I have discoloured greyish teeth. I also have quite a lot of metal fillings and three crowns, one of which is in the front and does not match in colour or shape to my other teeth. My teeth and gums are quite weak. I have tried to have improvements carried out by my dentist but they have not worked out that well. I have lost all my confidence and don’t know where to turn to. I would like to have a nice smile with normal looking teeth. I’m not after a Hollywood makeover. I would like to know what can be done, have trust in the people doing it and what the end result would look like.

I Get Embarrassed Whenever I Smile With My Large Front Teeth. I Wonder What Can Be Done?

Tuesday, May 6th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I am 21 years old and my 2 front teeth are bigger than normal ones. I get embarrassed whenever I smile with them and I’ve also got a tooth growing out the top of my gum. I’ve got a couple of bottom teeth that are wobbly too, even though I clean them twice a day and I’m a non-smoker. Also, I’ve got a tooth missing next to the front tooth but the tooth from the gum covers it up. They don’t get any cleaner no matter how much I clean them. I am just wondering what there is to be done as I’m only 21 and it’s not looking good for me in the future? Thank you in advance for any help you can offer me.
