Hello Mark. I Don’t Know Whether To Have Root Canal Treatment Or Not. Can You Advise Me?

Friday, April 11th, 2014
Q.

Hello. I have a badly decayed molar in my mouth. It is on the right side of my mouth on top; second to the last. I went to my dentist last year in October. He filled the tooth as much as he can. However, as instructed only a temporary fix until my insurance “kicked” in. He said it was badly infected at the time. It also had a huge hole from a bad filling and a cavity. He told me to get a root canal and to put a cap on it, If I choose to pull it, not advised, then all my teeth would eventually shift. I don’t have a clue what to do, either pull it or have a root canal? I have read the pros and cons for root canals. Please advise. Financially I can’t afford a root canal.

My Tooth Has Gone And Broke In Two. My Dentist Wanted To Pull It. What Else Can Be Done That Is Relatively Inexpensive?

Monday, February 24th, 2014
Q.

Hello Mark. I have a problem I would like help with. I have a tooth that gone and broke in two. My dentist was going to pull it, I said no thanks, is there something you can do? He did not pull it and it had decayed when this happened, instead of him pulling the whole tooth he fixed it to where it looks like a real tooth, but told me if I ever have problems with it he would have to pull it out completely. Is there a procedure that can be done without pulling it or getting an implant and it being inexpensive? I have an extreme sideways bite and I have fillings in every tooth almost and I have had them for over 20 years. Sometimes when I eat something they hurt, so what do I need to do?

My Wisdom Tooth Is Growing Slanted Into My Molar. Is There Any Risk In Having It Removed?

Tuesday, February 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi. I went to dental for an X-ray for my painful tooth recently. My Doctor says my wisdom tooth is growing slanted and is moving into the second molar. But the wisdom tooth still looks okay. Just that second molar along is starting to decay. I thought I’d just be able to pluck out the second molar that’s having pain. But in order to save money I am able to use Medisave, I’ve been advised to pluck out the wisdom tooth beside it as well. I really don’t know what should do. I’m 24. Will there be any risk with this type of procedure? Thank you for your reply in advance.

I do not feel like I have been properly informed about my treatment, what should I do?

Thursday, December 15th, 2011
Q.

Recently i had a dental treatment and doctor offered me a further treatment of root canal and crown which is going to cost me £204. Two months ago same doctor checked my front tooth and done the filling on it which came off with in two months and i was told that they will redo the filling for me. Last night, i went to a same dentist for a filling and i mentioned him that my gums are bit swollen around that same tooth. He checked my tooth and done some Xrays and told me that there is same decay on the back of my teeth which is causing this swelling. He tried to remove the decay and drill it and after a while he told me that tooth is gone, its half broken. Then he showed me an xray and told me that tooth was there just becuase of big filling and no actual tooth was left. My complain is that; 1- Why didn’t he treat it properly two months ago when he done the filling. 2- Why didn’t he tell me about the consequences of my treatment. 3- Why did he try to clean the decay when he had already seen my xrays. Before starting a treatment i should have informed about that consequences. 4- During my all treatment i wasn’t informed about anything like what can be happend to my tooth in the future and i was not given any options for the treatment. 5- I have asked them for a second opinion but they said that i can’t have it becuase my treatment has already started but it hasn’t started yet. To me it feels like they want to do their job quickly without doing it properly. Just in hurry of completing all appointments in a day. As a patient it is my right to have a second opinion.

I had a decayed tooth but the root remains, what should I do?

Wednesday, March 23rd, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Julian Caplan

Id really appreciate your advice. What do you recommend me to do next?
Because of badly decay(due to being badly filled before), I got my moral tooth removed on lower jaw, not completely the dentist couldnt remove the roots, do I need complete root removal?
Its so sad to hear that absence of one tooth can cause serious problems.

What do you advise me to do to fill the empty place of the removed tooth? Can it really result in serious things.

Looking forward to your reply.

All my teeth are either broken or decayed, what can I do?

Q.

Hi Doc, I am a 27 year old male. I have some serious problems with my teeth and I need some advice, I have only 14 teeth in my lower jaw and 13 in the upper one. Almost all these teeth are either broken or decayed. Could you please give me a suggestion of what can be done to get back my smile? How much will it cost and how long the treatment lasts.?
Hope to hear from you soon.
Thanks,

Is root canal treatment necessary?

Tuesday, February 22nd, 2011
Q.

Hi
I broke the outer half of an upper molar (filled) some years ago and did nothing about it. The break was above the gum line. It gave me no trouble. Recently I have noticed an occasional very slight headache on the same side of my head and very faint sensitivity in my cheek. The broken tooth is very briefly sensitive to hot and cold. It is not sensitive to pressure or discoloured.

I visited a new dentist who examined and drilled the tooth. He then placed a temporary white filling and told me to return in 4 days for root canal treatment. He did not take an x ray.

I am currently in no discomfort whatsoever. Is it likely that I need root canal treatment? I am reluctant to undergo this if not strictly necessary.

Many Thx

What can I do to replace a missing tooth and correct the remaining teeth?

Tuesday, September 7th, 2010
Q.
Hi Dr, I have had a lot of problems with my teeth over the last few years, unfortunately through fault of my own by neglecting them. My front tooth decayed and fell out a year ago, and I’ve been too embarrased and financially unable to get it taken care of or corrected. I’ve been using various ways of filling the gap, one of which I’m ashamed to say is by using tissue, needless to say it’s ruined the shape of my remaining teeth, is very uncomfortable and it just looks awful. I want to get this problem fixed and my tooth corrected. I would like to know the procedure you would recommend and an estimation of costs involved. Please help. Thank you.,
