I Grind My Teeth And Have Had Some Sensitivity. Do You Know What Treatment I Could Have To Fix This?

Thursday, July 3rd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Moore. I recently got a new crown (second last back tooth lower on the right) it cost me quite a bit and it is super sensitive to hot/cold. I’m 56 years old and I have been prepared for another crown. I do grind my teeth and I have had sensitivity problems for quite a while with various teeth and some near the new crowns. I’ve been to a dental hospital but they dropped me as they said I would find cheaper treatment elsewhere. Do you know what I could do to find this cheaper treatment? Thank you for taking the time to listen to my problem.

I Have Had A Root Canal On A Crowned Tooth. Would It Be Possible To Get A Bridge For Two Teeth Or Would I Need Dental Implants?

Tuesday, July 1st, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark, I have been to the dentist and been told I need to have a root canal on a crown I had years ago which has never worked and he is not sure how much tooth is left, also the tooth next to it is not in a great condition, the top is completely crumbled but he might be able to save it to crown. The cost is too much to have the work done on both so my other option is to have them both out. Not sure what to do other than that though. Would I be able to get a bridge for two teeth or would I need to get implants? Also how much money would that be?
Thank you.

My Husbands New Bridge Has Fallen Out After 5 Weeks. Surely This Shouldn’t Happen?

Friday, June 27th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. My husband had a Maryland bridge fitted to replace another bridge he had fitted by an army dentist almost thirty years ago, (this one had started to become loose after 26 years) for his 2 upper front teeth, how should this be priced? By the unit the 2 teeth are attached to or per tooth? Also the new bridge has also fallen out after 5 weeks, surely this shouldn’t happen and his dentist is refusing to replace it unless he pays again. Thank you.

I Have Veneers Which Keep Breaking Off And I Have No Confidence In My Dentist. Please Can You Advise Me?

Tuesday, June 17th, 2014
Q.

Dear Dr Hughes. I have had 6 veneers across the top row of my teeth. They have constantly broken off within one year, I had to pay for a second set – the dentist coolly said that he was a bad technician and that was all. I still had to pay full price for another set. I saw another dentist for a second opinion who said far too much of my original tooth had been removed. I then started having throbbing pain in my veneered teeth, the dentist said that I now need to have root fillings under all of them. I know that with gum shrinkage there will be gaps at the top of the teeth, but mine are black and ugly. I complained and she filled them with composite that doesn’t match my veneers. I have no confidence at all in my dentist. Another veneer broke off last night. I do not want to go back. On top of all this, she knew that I have severe Sjogren’s syndrome, and I have read since that I should have never had them done. Please can you advise me?
Many thanks.

I’ve Been Told That I Have To Get Used To My Bulky Crown. Could You Tell Me If This Is Correct Or Not?

Monday, June 16th, 2014
Q.

Good evening Dr Hughes. I hope you can help me determine whether I’ve had bad dental treatment or not? About 3 months ago I’ve had a crown placed on my upper front tooth. The temporary crown was fantastic and matched it well, unfortunately the permanent one is noticeably larger than the other teeth and it sticks out. My dentist told me it’s because my teeth are crowded and that I’ll get used to it.
I really disagree with him and have tried to get used to it but to no avail. Is it possible for me to send a picture to you to see if my dentist is trying to cover up bad dental work please? Many thanks.

I Feel A Throbbing Pain Ever Since My Crown Was Put Back In. Do You Have Any Idea Of What The Problem Might Be?

Tuesday, June 10th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. I’d like your help and advice if it’s not too much bother. My front crown, which is about 8 years old, it fell out and my dentist stuck it back in. From then it hasn’t felt quite right. I am having a throbbing pain in it. Is the nerve still alive when you have a crown put? I am also getting root canal treatment on three molars not had them crowned yet but this hasn’t given me a lot of pain just the normal, after this type of treatment. All the pain is in my front crown. Do you have any idea of what the problem might be? Thank you for your time.

I Recently Had A Front Tooth Crown Fall Out. I Have Since Been Given A Quote By My Dentist For A Dental Implant. How Do I Know If I’m Being Ripped Off?

Wednesday, June 4th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I recently had a front tooth crown fall out. My dentist told me that the remaining tooth couldn’t be saved, so removed the tooth and I currently have a temporary denture which doesn’t fit correctly and is uncomfortable to wear. I have already been charged £219 for this treatment. I have been given a quote by my dentist for a dental implant, teeth whitening and 3 white fillings (to replace existing metal ones) which I feel is very expensive. How do I know if I’m being ripped-off? I have been told that my only other option is a permanent denture. My fear is that I pay another £219 and find that a permanent denture is uncomfortable to wear. My dentist has given me 1 week to make a decision and I’m not sure what to do?

I Recently Broke My Tooth In Half After An Accident. Which Treatment Would I Need To Consider For This?

Monday, June 2nd, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes, I hope you can help me. Recently, my front tooth’s lower portion broke due to a bad accident. I guess that my half tooth broke. I want to know which treatment should I go ahead with? Which treatment is more durable and involve less invasive surgery to correct. I’d also like to know how much the various treatments cost. Thank you for listening to me and I look forward to hearing from you.

My Dentist Is Too Busy To Replace My Old Crown. Should I Try Another Dentist?

Wednesday, May 28th, 2014
Q.

My very old crown has fallen out and my dentist intends to restore the tooth and install a new one. He says this has only a 50% chance of working and cannot start work for some time as he is too busy to start now. It is covered with some white protective material at the moment; I am worried that the long wait to start mean deterioration underneath. He has given me three appointments so far but it will take some time to all be completed. The tooth I’m referring to is my upper left premolar. Should I wait that long or should I try another dentist? Thank you for your time.

Some Stitches Came Out After My Dental Implant Surgery. Will This Lead To Problems In The Future As They Heal?

Tuesday, May 27th, 2014
Q.

Hello Dr Hughes. Shortly after I was fitted with 2 implants plus bone graft (artificial) just 5 days ago, I discovered on the swab provided immediately after surgery that some of the stitches had come out. Could this be the reason why I can actually see the implants? And could this be a problem as regards future treatment and the healing process? Also what is the likelihood of the procedure being completed by mid-September? Thank you.
