Can you suggest a fast treatment for my crooked teeth?

Friday, October 19th, 2012
Q.

Mark,

I have had very crooked teeth and a bad smile for years and have just gotten on with things. I now have a desire to address this but dont know what can be done. I have had them checked a number of times and my teeth are very healthy Ive been told. The are too crooked for invisilign and the main options it appears are orthodontics. However this is a long process and I run a business. I want to investigate a makeover and veneer option (or any other options that can be done in a month or so). Are you able to help me understand what can be done. I selected you for this question as you appear to have all the right mix of dentistry in your practice to be able to advise me properly on options and potential costs. I am 42 years old in case that may influences the advice. Much appreciated.

I hate my sunken smile, how can I fix this?

Monday, August 6th, 2012
Q.

Hi doctor,i have a couple of questions. I had braces and had my 4 teeth extracted because i was not going to have enough space for my teeth to straighten out and with no teeth taken out my teeth were going to be to crowded and my lips were going to be sticking out to much( since i have thick lips). It was 2 from the top and 2 from the bottom and had no wisdom teeth cause they were taken out all 4 long time ago. My gums were being pulled back to close the gaps of the extracted tooths. At the end, all my teeth were straight but now my mouth looks like its sunken and my lips dont show anymore. I would like to have my lips back. Can the gums go back to where they were before and the same with the teeth? I know that i will be having the gap open, but is there a way i can have my teeth straight, and my lips outward without having my mouth looking sunken. Everytime i smile my teeth are straight but my smile looks sunken and my lips too, i dont like my smile.Know i wish i hadn’t taken any teeth out even if they were crooked. I had advised my orthodontist that i din’t wanted for my mouth to look sunken but there was nothing else to do, it was too late, the gaps were not yet closed. Do i need to consider tooth implant? How can this be fix. Please help me. Thank you for your time.

Can I receive braces for free?

Tuesday, June 26th, 2012
Q.

Hello Doctor, I am currently a 23 year old full time worker. I work for the nhs and i have always had very crooked teeth. This really gets me down and i feel very self-conscious. I had 12 teeth removed when i was younger due to overcrowding and i have now been left with a very unattractive smile. I would love to have braces fitted but cannot afford them privately, i know a few people who have had braces fitted for free and i would like to know if I’m in any way eligible for this work to be done because i work for the nhs? and how do i go about receiving the treatment? if not, do you know how i could spread the costs of the treatment? Thank you for your time.

Could the six month smile work for me?

Wednesday, May 16th, 2012
Q.

I have heard about something called the six month smile and was wondering if it could be something that would work for me. I have a gap between my front two teeth and slightly uneven teeth either side. It’s never been a massive issue but due to personal circumstances I would like to be looking my best. I also want my teeth whitened. Does the treatment mean that you can only have treatment that would take 6 months and also how can it work in such a short time when braces can take a few years?Thank you any any help would be great.

I am 23 years old, would porcelain veneers be a viable option to correct my smile or should I have braces?

Monday, April 2nd, 2012
Q.

Hi Dr Hughes,

I’m 23 years old. I wore a brace when i was younger, and still wear my retainer but am not quite happy with my teeth.

Am I too young to get 10 upper porcelain veneers? I’ve heard very mixed opinions about this. On one hand, if my teeth are quite straight then not too much grinding should need to be done but, if veneers last about 15 years in total then they will need to be replaced 3 or 4 times in my lifetime. Is this possible?

What are your opinions on this?

Thanks

Tuesday, March 6th, 2012
Q.

I was born with yellow teeth, and uneven , misshaped, too, no amount of cleaning.with whitening products have ever done any good….I have never been able to smile , or enjoy having my photo taken. How can someone like me who does not have . much money ever be able to have cosmetics dentistry done ?? …I have been told by my dentist I only need six veneers top . and a little work on the bottom four. but I would never be able to save for one tooth to be done as it came to far more then I would ever have .

Are veneers the best choice for straightening my crossed, discoloured teeth?

Friday, February 10th, 2012
Q.

Hi, I’m looking into getting cosmetic dentistry but I do not know what the best option is, my main issue is the colour of my teeth and the fact that one of my upper front tooth overlaps the one next to it due to an accident when I was younger which makes my smile lobsided and crooked. Would I need veneers or is it not possible to readjust my teeth alignment so that it does not overlap? I would prefer to keep my two front teeth as they are distinctive to me and they are not a bad shape in themselves its just the overlapping that is the issue, I definitely want veneers on my there teeth though as my canines do not match in size and the rest are also not similar in shape and size. Its really getting me down now, I am 21 and have been thinking of getting my teeth done for 7 years now.

Are braces a better option to veneers for straightening my crooked teeth?

Monday, January 9th, 2012
Q.

Hi Rob,

I’m a 29 year old male from the East Midlands. I have what i would call severely crooked top teeth. This has had a major impact on my life, from relationships and interviews, to learning to even speak and laugh differently to hide my teeth. My top teeth are crowded and one of the top two front teeth angles back into the mouth and the other protrudes.

I have never been able to afford treatment but have just been made redundant and will be getting a reasonable pay-out, i have decided i want to look into getting my teeth sorted as they make me very unhappy.
Going to the dentist makes me very anxious as i am ashamed of my teeth, i did ask about correcting them a few years ago and was quoted £7500.00 for veneers. Even with my pay-out, this is still a little to much than i can afford.

I was just after advice really, i would rather avoid metal ‘train-tracks’ if possible, but have heard about others such as Clearstep and Inman aligners. From the very basic summary of what i’ve said, and the hindrance of not being able to see my teeth, would you think i can get anything done for say £5000.00? Are braces the best option for me, and will Clearstep or Inman be suitable for my degree of crookedness?
Any help is much appreciated.

Kind regards
