I’m having a problem with pressure when my back teeth touch. Is this something that can be addressed with braces?

Tuesday, August 24th, 2010
Q.
Hi, I am female, 24 years old and I was meant to get a brace when I was 12 years old, but it never went ahead. I booked a consultation for September to find out about a Fixed brace to correct some slight overcrowding/crooked teeth (I have already had one consultation). But I am now starting to wonder if I have a problem with my jaw too. My dentist (and the Ortho at my first consultation) told me I have quite a deep overbite (not an overjet), so my top front teeth pretty much cover my lower front teeth when I bite down. I have noticed lately that when I close my bite (make my back teeth touch) I feel pressure on parts of my lower jaw (towards the back of the jaw, near the ear area). It feels as if someone is literally forcing my lower aw back further than feels comfortable. When I release my bite and part my teeth (so that my back teeth are no longer meeting/touching) the pressure is released and feels much more comfortable. I find myself keeping my teeth apart like this most of the day to avoid the discomfort that I experience in my lower jaw when I make my back teeth touch. Does this sound like something that can be fixed with fixed braces? Is it possibly due to my overbite and the fact that my top teeth tilt slightly inwards (towards the inside of my mouth) so then my lower teeth have to go further backwards to fit behind upper teeth, causing my jaw to ache by being too far back. I am finding this rather difficult to explain, hopefully I have made some sense. Kind regards,

I would like to fix a crooked tooth and I’ve heard veneers might be an option. Are they available on the NHS and do you have any extra advice?

Q.
My teeth are generally in good health, however my front right central incisor is crooked and bumpy along the edge. I was refused braces on the NHS when I was 14 as they said my teeth were not severely bad enough to warrant braces (however I could pay for them myself if I wished, but this was not an option). The tooth really bothers me and I was wondering if a veneer would be a good idea? I’ve heard they’re not very good in the long term and would like some advice please! Also is it likely to be available on the NHS as I am still under 18? Kind Regards, any information is greatly appreciated! ,

I have a mild overbite, along with retroclined and overlapped upper incisors, and crooked lowers. I would like a nice smile. I’m considering Glamsmile and Invisalign, two very different approaches. Any advice? Its really confusing!,

Should I have under-the-gum wisdom tooth treatment?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010
Q.
Hi Mr. Safeer Butt! I have one wisdom tooth that just broke through the gum, and all the others are non-impacted so far. However, my dentist recommended I get an under-the-gum wisdom tooth that looks like it will be crooked later, pulled, with my other ones too in case. What do you guys think of this? Thanks in advance!,
