Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Hello Dr, My top 4 teeth was little protruding, I had put braces for 6 months, actually all the teeths were crowded so doctor had made some gap in between so that my teeth will go in. It moved in but now it has come to the same position and it is shaking and paining. Please suggest what i have to do? If it comes back to the same position then it’s okay but if it protrudes more then it will be a problem. Please suggest what are the do’s and dont’s. Regards

For whitening suggest whether Enlighten or bleach direct from the internet is the best

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Hi, I am hoping that you might be able to help me. I am researching into getting my teeth whitened. I have looked at Enlighten which appeals to me, but I have also come across a website where you buy the bleach direct, and fit your own impressions etc, basically cutting out the middle man, the URL is brightsmiledirect.com and they provide a “true professional system-with professional strength 22% carbamide peroxide gel”. Please can you tell me why Enlighten would be better than this? Many thanks in advance

Problem with my root canal treatment affecting my confidence and my lifestyle advice

Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
Q.
Following an accident about 18 months ago one of my front teeth was knocked out- this was able to be replaced by a doctor in A and E. I then had root canal treatment on the tooth by my dentist. Unfortunately the tooth was not replaced straight and is alot more forward than the one at the side of it and slightly overlaps. Since the accident my confidance has been significantly affected. I find I cover my mouth when I laugh or smile. Also I have recently noticed movement in my gum when I bite down on the tooth- im concerned the tooth will crack or fall out and so I tend to eat on one side of my mouth away from the effected tooth. Are there any solutions available to restore my confidance in my smile and with eating food again? Thank you.

What options do I have to at least make my smile more pleasant

Monday, April 20th, 2009
Q.
Hello, Iam considering cosmetic surgery on my teeth and I would like some preliminary advice please, Due to very poor care from my dentist as a child, my teeth were filled unnecessarily and I was refursed a brace – as such I have an overbite on my upper front teeth and my bottom teeth are crooked. My upper front teeth have also been filled with misial, distal and oclusal fillings, so are now badly discoloured. What options do I have to at least make my smile more pleasant. Can you suggest the most economical way I could achieve this. many thanks

Does my dentist sound like she knows what she is doing?

Thursday, April 9th, 2009
Q.
I asked a dentist, I had just joined, about cosmetic work. She said she could do it and that she did it cheap so that people could afford it. She did not suggest it was of a lower standard. I had an appointment to start a bridge to replace a missing tooth(A 3 tooth unit) and a crown on another tooth to match the tooth on the opposite side of my mouth to the bridge. I went today (she was running about an hour late) she said she couldn’t do both. She tried to get me to just have the single crown done because she said they won’t match up if we get them done at the same time. I asked for the bridge. She ground down my teeth and took away some of the gum. She then said she couldn’t match the colour of my teeth because they were too light. I would have to settle for A1, despite the fact my teeth are lighter. I’m worried they will look bad.I’ve wanted them to look good for so long. She then didn’t bother putting on a temporary bridge she just put a white cement type material over the stumps, which a large chunk of fell off about three hours after. She told me to wash with salt water twice a day to stop the gums getting infected and come back if I needed antibiotics. She didn’t give me any further care instructions. I’m wondering if I made a big mistake and should have paid more for a better dentist. My ex-partner lost several teeth due to a bad bridge. Everything I’ve read suggests I should have had a temporary bridge. Does this dentist sound like she knows what she is doing? Is it okay that the bridge colour won’t match? It is cosmetic work.Should my teeth have a proper temporary cover? Can I brush the blood stained cement on the stumps?

Is there orthodontist treatment provided in Bedfordshire NHS?

Tuesday, April 7th, 2009
Q.
Dear Dr Julian Caplan My front 4 teeth are quite pronounced, which makes me very depressed and I have lost a lot of confidence. I always smile with my mouth closed and will always try and cover them up as much as possible. I had a brace when I was younger for around 2 years, which helped immensley but eventually they have just slowly moved back (not to the extent of when I was a child), but it’s got to a point where I am extremely conscious. I have spoken with my dentist who has put me in touch with a local orthodontist but the cost is way out of my price range. Is there anyone I can contact to see if I can have it done on the NHS, or perhaps a scheme where the NHS make a contribution? I am desperate to have this sorted as it is making me very unhappy. I live in Bedfordshire, I am 25 and work full time. Any advice would be gratefully received.
