I’ve Had Radiotherapy As Treatment For Cancer And It’s Taken It’s Toll On My Teeth. Could I Get Cosmetic Treatment Through The NHS?

Tuesday, March 18th, 2014
Q.

Hi Mark. I had radiotherapy treatment for cancer about 15 years ago around my mouth and throat area, I was told at the time that this would eventually cause problems with my teeth, they are now in a sorry state even though I have always cleaned twice a day, they just seem to be wearing away and breaking and are causing me great discomfort and stopping me from eating properly. Someone has mentioned to me that I should be able to get cosmetic surgery on the NHS because this has been caused by the cancer and treatment. Do you know if this is correct and who would I get in touch with about this?

Is there a danger of harmful metals being released from my crowns?

Tuesday, January 4th, 2011
Q.

Hi Dr. Verma I have a complicated question to ask you that has been drilling into my mind since I had the crown fixed 3 years ago, I heard that in all part of europe it is prohibited to use crowns made from a combination of metal fused to porcelain because they can cause mouth or gums cancers because of it`s chemicals release
Think you in advance

Saturday, December 4th, 2010
Q.

Hi, my friend who is in her 60’s went to her dentist last Saturday to have her bottom front teeth crowned. The dentist drilled the roots out but stopped and told her that there should be blood but there was ‘nt any there. He then took an x ray and told her there where shows in her gum, cancer was mentioned and then was told it could be an infection. Treatment was not done and she has to return this Saturday for a further xray to see if it is all clear. Question…is my friend worrying for nothing???? please advice and I thank you for reading this.
