After Having A Crown Fitted I Now Have A Pulsing Sensation Every Time I Eat. Why Is This?

Monday, November 25th, 2013
Q.

I went to the dentist last week to have a crown fitted on my right lower 6. I’ve had root canal on that tooth already so there is no nerve, I’ve never had pain before but I’m now having pain every time I eat and a pulsing sensation all the time. The dentist did have to resize it several times before cementing.  I think it’s still too high as my bite is not the same as it was before. Do you know whether this pain will settle? Or am I just being a wimp?  I hate going to the dentist but I don’t know how to describe the pain to the dentist and I know there should be no pain as there is no nerve! I also keep wanting to grind my teeth. Any ideas on what I can do?

I Am Experiencing Movement Of My Teeth After Orthodontic Treatment, Should I Contact My Orthodontist?

Tuesday, August 13th, 2013
Q.

Dr Butt, despite retaining my teeth after recent orthodontic treatment, I have noticed that my bite has shifted and is wearing down the molar enamel surfaces of the teeth as they are looking more yellow and worn. I feel my front teeth have moved inwards slightly, which has caused the bite to shift. This has given me reason to worry that the new uncomfortable bite that I am experiencing is wearing my lovely teeth down by the day, as I can feel them knocking each other. Should I consult my orthodontist, who made my retainers, about it or is this something that will rectify itself? When I wear my retainer the bite stabilises but when I take it out it shifts and is scraping the teeth. I hope that you can help me with this problem. Thanks.

My New Dentures Cause Me Pain And Make It Difficult To Eat, Is There Another Option?

Friday, March 15th, 2013
Q.

Hello. I have recently had my top 4 front teeth extracted and dentures fitted immediately. However I am not able to chew my food as my bottom 4 teeth prevent me from a full bite. I having to drink soup or eat very soft food as I can only use my tongue to ‘cut’ my food. The plate in my mouth is making the roof of my mouth sore and unable to bear pressure. Due to poor bone density I have been told my other teeth will not support a bridge and I don’t have a lot of money for implants. I was wondering if there is any other way or a thinner or more flexible denture (that is provided by the NHS) or is this my lot. I have the added problem of having a husband whose blood goes cold at the thought of seeing me with my missing teeth. Any response along with possible costs would be greatly appreciated. Thanking you in anticipation.
From a very sad 48 year old lady.

Following A Blow To The Face, My Teeth Are Pushed Back Slightly. Is This Just The Swelling Or Do I Need To See A Dentist?

Monday, January 7th, 2013
Q.

I was struck in the face by a fleeing suspect the other day at work – they had me sent to the ER just to be safe, everything seemed fine other than bruised and swollen, however, since then I’ve noticed that my left front incisor and the tooth next to it (before the canine) are pushed slightly back, and the incisor is angled ever so slightly so the front incisors are no longer even. It’s very annoying because now my lower incisor hits the top one if I’m not super careful while chewing. I’m still swollen (it’s only been about 30 hours since it happened), and none of the teeth seem to be loose at all. Could this be a result of the swelling, or should I be contacting HR to get my teeth looked at as soon as I can open my mouth that far (still too swollen for anyone to get a good look at anything)?

I have suffered with TMJ for a number of years, are there any long term solutions?

Monday, May 16th, 2011
Q.

Dear Dr Justin,

I have suffered with TMJ for over 4 jears now. I get terrible tension headaches that just won’t go away, neck pains, ear ache, stiff hands. I’ve gone through 1 wash out of the joint surgery, volarol painkillers which caused my stomach to bleed and caused an infection, valium which I’ve refused to take after it changed my personality, 3 botox injections (after two my smile got paralysed). Now I’m taking 150mg – 175 mg of Nortryptyline and also undergoing accupuncture which doesn’t seem to help much. I would love to find a longterm solution for my problem as I really can’t stand taking so many drugs for the rest of my life and my headaches are back and whole face feel tense. I am looking for help that will cure my problems once and for all. Can you help? Have you had many succesful stories of people with the same problem? I just don’t want to undergo another surgery and find out that it doesn’t really help to cure my pain.

Regards,

Can I have my front teeth made smaller?

Wednesday, March 9th, 2011
Q.

I would like to know if it is possible to have my large front two teeth made to look smaller. I have asked my dentist about porcelain veneers, and understand that they need to be replaced as gums recede etc with age, however, they also advised me that it would be almost impossible to make my teeth slightly smaller, due to change in bite etc. I’d appreciate any advice or guidance you can give as to whether I could have cosmetic dentistry to achieve this?

Hi,

I have receding gums, are fillings effective to cover the bone, how long will this kind of treatment last? will the gums continue to recede?

Is there any further treatment for my cleft pallette?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

I was born with a cleft palate when i was a baby. I had my jaw broken when i was younger to correct my bite but still my top set of teeth are smaller than my bottom and i don’t have a smile that fills my mouth. I look like i have gaps at the sides. Is there anything that can be done. I went through hell with my teeth when i was younger, what with operations and braces. I am 27 now and just want for it all to be worth it

I’m getting by braces off soon but there are still problems. What will happen?

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010
Q.

Are my back molars supposed to touch when my jaw is clenched? Currently, I am getting my braces off in two months and I am worried because there is a small gap between them.
