Should my dentist have to pay for the crown that HE broke?

Q. My wife has had a crown for 3 1/2 years that has recently become loose. She went to our family dentist of 25 years to have it adjusted and it broke when he was trying to sand it down. He said it would cost her $1,400 for a new crown. Since he is the one that broke the crown, shouldn’t he replace it and only charge her for the office visit?,
A. No – There was obviously an underlying problem with the crown and the crown probably need replacing. I am sure your dentist was trying to prevent your wife from having to have a new crown
