Should I have root canal treatment prior to crowns being fitted?

Q.
Is it best, or should I say good practice, to have root canal treatment carried out prior to the crown being fitted even if the root of the tooth appears healthy?
A.
Root filling is required if there is pathology at the root tip or symptoms indicate irreversible inflammation of the nerve that indicates that the nerve is irreversibly damaged and requires removal and filling. If the nerve is healthy it should not be removed unless there is not enough crown left for the crown to be cemented onto
