Questions concerning tooth replacement

Q.
hello . have a congenitally missing upper lateral incisor and the existing incisor is a microdont so my orthodontist decided to remove the existing incisor and to pull the canine teeth to the incisor’s place (on the missing incisor side the canine is already in the place of the missing incisor) and then he will reshape the canines to make them look like incisors …. my question is can a tooth replace a completely different tooth and when this happen i will have no canines how will this work i am really confused and will this make me problems in the future and will i get the good look i am asking for ? any help will be appreciated… thanks in advance .

Hi

Have you already had this treatment done? It’s usually better for both function and aesthetics to keep the spaces, indeed make them bigger to the size of the ideal lateral incisor, and put the canines into the correct place , then replace the missing teeth later on with implants – long-term ‘temporary’ or provisional bridges can be used to ‘repalce ‘ the missing teeth in the meantime

If they’ve already done the opposite then some aesthetic dentistry can be done to simulate the canines to look more like lateral incisors , but because these teeth are much bigger , this can sometimes require some compromise

Hope that helps

Kind regards

Mark
