My teeth are already straight after 6 months of brace treatment, will they need to stay on for the full 2 years?

My orthodntist does not speak english very well so i have trouble asking him questions. I had braces put on 6 months ago to correct 2 eye teeth that protruded slightly ( i was too self conscious of them) they have been straight for 2 months now – so will i need to have them on for the full 2 years? what is the least time frame i could hope for?
