My Jaw Clicks Which Affects How I Chew And Speak. Is This A Sign Of TMJ Disorder?

Q.
Hello Mark, I wonder if you could help me out. I have been receiving pain in my jaw and the left side of my head, and this is affecting how I chew my food and speak. It clicks sometimes when I open and close my jaw which is quite annoying and it is quite painful. I don’t have any other symptoms besides these. I do get toothache sometimes but on the other side of my jaw. This usually occurs on my left side which affects how I chew on that side. Is this a sign that I could have TMJ Temporomandibular joint dysfunction? Thank you.
A.
Hello and thank you for your enquiry. Yes it could be TMJ as some of the symptoms you described occur with this – but without examining you properly it’s impossible to 100% confirm so I would seek an examination and a consultation with a TMJ expert nearest to your area. This website has some more information on TMJ disorder and its symptoms if you’d like further information. Kind regards, Mark.
