My gums bleed and my dentist told me I may lose my teeth, what can I do?

Q.
My gums bleed and on my last dentist appt. she told me i might loose my teeth pretty soon cause they getting fragil and am so scare>>>> please tell me what can i do to prevent this from happening. my doctor did not tell me what can she do..therefore, am asking you for your HELP!!
A.
Dear Enquirer,
If your gums bleed then this is a sign of gum disease…left unchecked, this can progress to periodontal disease where your teeth can become loose and hence they may need to be extracted. Since gum disease is a ‘silent’ disease in that patients do not really suffer any significant symptoms of pain, it tends to be ignored.
However it is vital to see a dentist and hygienist on a regular basis so your gum disease can be measured and monitored. In order to assess gum disease, x rays and a full clinical examination are required so that a diagnosis and treatment plan can be made.
Please go back to your dentist and ask him/her to explain in detail what condition do you have, gingivitis( which is early gum disease and less serious) or periodontal disease (which needs different management and deep cleaning and regualr maintenance).
I hope this helps,
Sunita
