My filling has fallen out twice and I am in a lot of pain, what do you suggest?

Q.

Hello Doctor

i have recently had a filling done the first filling came out within three months,i went back they filled another, but im now suffering with alot of pain around the area,i went in as an emergency and they informed me that the filling was too high so they smoothed it over for me,however im still in pain they have informed me if continues it may be the nerves been damaged and would have to do an root canal is this necessar? and what has caused this? thank you very much for your time

A.
It sounds as if you may require a root filling. This can happen if the tooth is very decayed or if the filling that was placed was very large. Your dentist would normally try and fill a tooth, even if it is deep, witout attempting a root filling as we try and be as conservative as possible.
Do go back and get it treated, it is not a complicated procedure.
