My dentist said they can not do anything to my cracked tooth until swelling goes down advice

Q. Hello,  i got an infection on my right lower molar i belive because the molar is cracked to the root. now ive been to the emergancy room and they just prescibed me antibiotics and pain medication, i spoke with many dentists and they tell me they can not do anything untill the swelling goes down. now the swelling looks like i have a 4″ jawbreaker in my cheek. should i just have the molar removed. should i see the dentist now or wait untill the infection is gone. i dont want to pay if all the dentist is going to say is wait untill the infection goes away?

A. The reason that the dentist is telling you to let the swelling go down, is because it is very difficult to become fully aneasthetised when an infection is present to have a tooth extracted. You would be in excrutiating pain otherwise. Trust the dentist and wait for the swelling to go down. The infection won’t go away, but the symptoms will ease temporarily. Hope this helps.
