My dentist is advising against crowns for my loose teeth. Is there a reason why?

Q. I have a number of loose teeth which apparently is due to receding gums. The teeth are unsightly and i want to have them crowned – but my dentist is advising against becuause of the looseness. Dont crowns help loose teeth?,
A. no crowns do not help loose teeth. They just fit over the top of the teeth and won’t make the teeth tighter. You will need periodontal treatment instead or as well as?

I’ve not visited my dentist for at leased 20 years since i had extensive treatment on my front teeth getting crowns, ive got 3 teeth bridged, one crown fits over a shaped tooth the 3rd crown fits with a steal peg which fits into a ground off tooth which is drilled , the dilemma is that they have been coming loose very frequently, and ive been sticking them back with super glue, i know ive been doing wrong, but i just couldn’t be bothered to go to the dentist, anyway its back fired now and i need to go but im dreading the bill, as i don’t have much anyway, the problem is , that the hole for the peg is twice as large for the peg and some of teeth are rotten, i know its been my own doing, all im asking for is advice .

I have two crowns fitted, one either side of my two front upper teeth. One crown keeps dropping out and my dentist says I haven’t enough root to hold the tooth. He has recommended I have two, three unit bridges or one, six unit bridge to replace the two crowns and ensure colour match on the front teeth. He has quoted £750 per unit (for 6 units). I cannot afford to pay this, should I get a second opinion? Or are there any cheaper options? Thank you for your time.

I cannot give an opinion as I have not seen your mouth, but if you’re not sure, asecond opinion may help.

i have lost one of my canine teeth due to an accident and am looking to have an implant to replace it. From what i understand about the treatment you have the root replaced and then a crown put on top of it. Do you think it is possible to have a gold crown, instead of a normal white crown put on instead? If this was possible could you give me a general estimate about how much this would cost, including the implant treatment. thank you

Hi The cost of a gold crown depends on the quality of gold you wish. as you are probably aware gold prices have been on an upward trend the past two years. The cost for the crown can range from £450 to £650 depending on the quality. Implants with abutments again depend on the quality of both , which can range from £1200 to £1600.
