Ive gum disease and my dentist has mentioned surgery can you expand on what is involved?

Q. I have gum disease and my dentist has mentioned surgery. Can you expand on what is involved?

A. You obviously have gum disease that has been attempted to stabilise without much affect.
Advanced gum disease can cause the pockets around your teeth to become too deep for regular cleaning and scaling.
This is where the surgery comes in. The tissue around the teeth is cut back to reveal the diseased area- and to remove debris, and tartar that has built up.
The surgery is performed by a periodontist- this is a dentist that specialises in periodontitis (gum disease)
Your dentist will refer you to a periodontist, if needed and you will then be assessed accordingly.
The price of the treatment varies and will be discussed at your initial visit.
It is important to stabilise the condition now and save your teeth before it’s too late.
Hope this has helped
