Is it possible to have the Invisalign treatment when my wisdom teeth are starting to come through?

Q.
Hello,
I have recently looked into the invisalign option to straighten six of my top front teeth, and was wondering if you could help me please. A recent dental x-ray revealed I have four wisdom teeth ready to grow out, all seemingly straight. (my dentist told me the top two and bottom right are fine; the bottom left is slightly tilted.) Is it possible to have invisalign whilst wisdom teeth are coming through, and is it possible to have the invisalign made to fit only over the teeth I require straightening, instead of the full set of top teeth?
Thank you.

Hi and thanks for your questions

The answer to the first question is that it could be possible to carry our the straightening without any interference from the wisdom teeth but that would need to be confirmed by viewing your X-rays and examining you clinically. I have carried out plenty of cases where we did not have to remove these teeth but in some cases it is an advantage or necessity to remove them.

Invisalign is designed to fit over all the teeth and in fact works best the more teeth it covers fully – in some cases the best fit requires the wisdom teeth to be removed. It may not have enough anchorage support if it just covers the front teeth. Again these answers will follow a thorough examination with an Invisalign dentist who has a lot of experience

hope that helps
