Is 16 years not eligible to have veneers?

Q. I was wondering if it is possible to get veneers on the nhs, as i had 2 accidents over the years and on each, chipped both my front teeth. At the moment I have caps on them both but one fell off and was put back on so that it sticks forward. The caps are also discoloured and noticible when you look at them. I was told by my dentist that when i reached 16 i could have veneers, yet when i asked at my last appointment he dismissed the question. I am now nearly 17 and have no confidence in my smile, i cannot smile with teeth and it gets me down. If i am not entitled to get veneers on the nhs then how much would it cost per tooth? the 2 teeth on either side of my front teeth are also very wonky aswel and i have gaps in these 4 teeth aswel as the discoloured and wonky caps.

A. If the veneers are justified for functional reasons, then standard veneers are available on the NHS and can also improve the appearance of your teeth. If you want a specific change in the appearance it is likely to be a private tooth veneer. Prices range from £350- 800 per tooth,  at the upper end systems like lumineers, DaVinci, and emax are brand leaders. Before spending significant money you should check that the gum level has ” matured & stabilised” around the teeth because the veneer will follow the existing shape. In some people this takes till around 21 years old.Rob

It really depends on what you need doing, how many teeth are treated and the type of restoration used.

Hi, i am interested in booking in a free consultation for a ‘smile makeover’. I have slightly wonky teeth at the front which i would like straightened but i also have a gummy smile which i would like corrected. Would it bepossible to book an evening appointment (as i work in the City) to discussmy options and also cost. Many thanks ClaireDear Aviva Team, I am currently researching cosmetic dentistry practices inSt. Albans and have to say that you are the one I feel most comfortable about. However, before I call in to make an appointment for an implant consultation I have a few questions: I will definitely need a bone graft due to severe bone Recession around one (!) particular tooth (the one that needs tobe replaced with an implant) 1. Can you use bovine material? I would not want to undergo two surgeries and certainly not accept a human donor’s bone2. Can you do the whole procedure in one session: Extraction, socket preservation, bone graft; and then the implant after the bone graft has integrated? 3. I see in your fee section the bone graft is C2A3700. That definitely sounds reasonable. However, is that really the FULL cost of the bone graft for one tooth? (or are there extras for surgery, care, material, etc.?) 4. Do you charge the C2A31900 for an implant irrespective of “where it is”? I have seen practices that charge more for teeth in the aesthetic area (i.e. front teeth) Thank you very much in advance for your kind help and I look forward to, hopefully, meeting you soon. Kind regards,

Since being a teenager I have always been ashamed of my teeth and so hatedhaving my photo taken, smiling or laughing. Always being conscious of covering my mouth so people wouldn’t notice them. I have a crown and two implants at the front and very dark teeth otherwise. My dentistry treatment I havehad in the past has always been rather practical than cosmetic and so nothing really matches. I hope even at my age n life something can be done to make me less self conscious of my smile and teeth and maybe make me feel happy about myself. The cost is possibly prohibitive as I imagine the work I would need done to be the cost of a new small car, but I would still like tosee if this is at all possible. Maybe dreams can come true

My daughter is 16 and her front teeth have been stained since childhood. This is making her very conscientious and she doesn’t smile wither her mouth open or she covers her teeth. Is it possible to get any help on the NHS for this? Our dentist says not, but thought I would get a second opinion.

Many thanks.
