I’m Too Scared To Brush My Teeth In Case I Make Things Worse! Please Give Me Some Direction?

Q.
Hello. I am a 20 year old student who hasn’t taken care of my teeth. I have now realised that if I don’t do something soon there will be nothing left. I haven’t seen a dentist in over 5 years and rarely brush due to the fear that I will now make things in my mouth even worse. I don’t know what it is but I can’t see a dentist. It’s got to the point where I have been in enough pain over the last few weeks that I have needed to take ibuprofen and sometimes paracetamol at the same time to get rid of the pain. I believe I have at least 14 bad teeth and at least 6 of them are really bad. I want to find help but I don’t know what to do. Please could you give me some direction on what to do next. Thanks.

Hello, I’m glad you’ve had the courage to write in and get in touch. There is only one solution to your problems, you need to go to a dentist immediately and seek professional help with your problems. Brushing your teeth would help you, not hinder your condition, perhaps researching more about oral hygiene would help. Try to find a practice with expertise and experience in dealing with dental phobia. Many people have the same dental phobia as yourself and they almost all regret not going to the dentist sooner. If price/cost is a problem, find a practice which offers a viable payment plan to make costs more manageable. Regards, Mark.
