I’m Currently Having Braces But I Fear My Gaps Won’t Be Closed In Time For My Wedding. Could Cosmetic Bonding Work For Me?

Q.
Dear Dr Patel,

I have had gaps in between my teeth since childhood but I noticed they have been widening. I am on an internship in Tunisia where I started my braces treatment, it’s been 10 months and I am due to leave in 6 weeks. So far, the 3 mm gap in between my front teeth has closed and so have the little ones on the bottom. However, I now have ‘2 mm’ gaps on each side of my 4 upper and bottom teeth (4 gaps in total). Whilst I would like to be patient with the treatment, in addition to relocating, I will be getting married in February 2014 and would really like to have the gaps closed before then. Would you recommend cosmetic bonding?

My other fear is that I have a long tongue which have been pushing the teeth out; I had a tongue thrust apparatus on for 3 months which has assisted in training the tongue to rest up in my mouth, however I am aware that if we push the teeth too far in, the tongue will still push them back out later on.

Your advice is much appreciated.

Thank you for getting in touch. Bonding can work well as we use some great techniques to close these gaps. I would have to see you in person to assess your situation however as it’s difficult to say. Discuss this with an experienced cosmetic dentist for best results. Best wishes, Dr Riten Patel BDS.
