I’m Concious Of My Smile Now That My Crowns Have Dropped. What Can I Do To Fix This?

Q.
Dear Mark. I have 2 post crowns on the upper right 1 and 2. The 2 crowns have dropped and they are now longer than the rest of my teeth. They have been like this for a little while. As far as I know there is no reason for them to have dropped. There is no movement of the crowns they have just dropped. I am very conscious of it and try not to smile as much. Can the crowns be filed down so they are the same length as the rest of my teeth or will I have to get replacements? If so, would I need to have new posts as well? I have been to the dentist who took X-rays and he said that they are fine and ‘well stuck in’. He gave me no help what so ever, he just wanted to get the next patient in. Any information you could give me would be gratefully received. Thanks.

I would first of all advise that you seek a second opinion from an experienced and well respected cosmetic dentist or a restorative dental specialist for advice and options. There are most likely lots of options for you. The most important step first of all is to diagnose the problem and to ascertain why they look how they do. Then solutions can be discussed and estimates given. The posts may well be able to be able to be used again but they also might not be suitable for several reasons. Hope that helps for now but next step is to see an expert near you or travel to London and go from there. Kind regards, Mark.
