I’m 13 years old, why can I not get braces on the NHS?

Q.
Why wont the NHS fund my braces?

I went to the orthodontist in hope to get braces for my teeth, and my orthodontist said i have a 4mm overbite and overjet and also a lot of gaps that are the same size throughout my teeth. She said I would have to go private if i want them. I would need a standard brace which about 2000 – 3000 pounds. My mum cannot afford that because she does not work because my brother has autism and he gets fed through a tubein his stomach. Also he cannot talk. So she has to stay at home to look after him and take him to school. I just want straight teeth, i hate smiling because everybody sees my horrid teeth. By the way I am 13 years old.

Hello, You have to meet certain criteria to qualify for NHS braces. If your crowding is mild, you would not be entitled. Do go back to your dentist to find out why you were unsuitable, if not there are payment plans with private dentists, which can break down the cost of your treatment
