I want straight teeth but have gum disease, what do you advise?

Q.
i am 45 years old, is there any way i can have straight teeth? i have gum disease.
A.
Dear Enquirer,
These days, with the technologies and techniques available, we are able to deliver excellent cosmetic dentistry with the dual purpose of aiding both function and aesthetics.
All restorative/cosmetic dentistry is carried out only once the gums are healthy, so if you have gum disease, this needs to be treated first. Early gum disease/gingivitis is treated over 1 or 2 visits with a hygienist, after which your crooked teeth can be tackled.
More severe gum disease/periodontitis may involve several visits with a hygienist/periodontist. Once the gumsare stabilised, you can have straighter teeth via a course of orthodontics/braces or by placement of porcelain veneers.
I hope this helps,
Sunita
