i live on the costa del sol andrequire do you think crowns are better than veneers

Q. I live on the Costa del Sol andrequire extensive dental treatment including a number of dental implants. One clinic has quoted me a cost of 1600€ per implant. Another 900€ per implant. Is there any specific reason for such a differencein the price? I have had a consultation with the surgeon at one of the clinics who will carry out 2 extractions and insert 2 implants on the same day. Is this a recommended practice? in addition I wanted a number of porcelain veneers because my upper front teeth have been filled many times and now look unsightly. However I am being advised not to have veneers but instead to have 10 zirconia crowns at a cost of 580€ per crown. Do you think crowns are better than veneers. I also understand that prior to having the crowns I must have route canal fillings of all my teeth. Please advise.

A. Hi,
It sounds as though you are looking to have a whole mouth makeover. It is very difficult to comment without seeing your mouth and teeth as they are at the moment.
The cost of the implants can vary- depending on the system used. There are some cheaper implants on the market- but fail to have any research and quality assurance with them. Therefore, it is always advisable to go for a reputable implant system.
Placing the implant on the same day of the extraction is not always the best option. You should speak to the dentist who will be placing the implants and ask for the reasons of placing them on the same day. It may a better alternative to let the bone around the sockets heal for a few weeks first.
Also, you should know that if the dentist is planning on loading the implant immediately with crowns, that osteo-integration (bone moulding around the implant) can be compromised. You really need to speak about your options.
Veneers and crowns are both good- for different reasons. It all depends on the state of the remaining tooth structure and tooth position etc. By the sounds of things, you already have heavily filled teeth- so crowns may be the better option. If you are having Root canal therapy, then I would suggest that the performing dentist has a good success rate.
I am unsure of the fees in Spain- but I would definately recommend that you find a reputable cosmetic dentist that can carry out the treatment- as it is not something to go into lightly.
I understand that you live abroad, but I would be more than happy to see you for a consultation here in the UK.
Hope this information helps.
