I have severe periodontitis and wanted to know the best replacement treatment for my teeth.

Q.
Please could you advise me i am so worried and although i know the situation is terrible some sound advice would at least help me to rest. I have aggressive periodontitis. With the result that i am only 34 and my bone loss is so sever on my front bottom teeth that my dentist said that i won’t them for much longer. I have moved around a lot in my life and seen different dentists and therefore not been under the care of one. This dentist said she will refer me to the hospital after my next hygienist visit but this will be in three months time. Meanwhile she said that there is nothing i can do but wait for my teeth to fall out (aside of course from impeccable hygiene).

My question is this. Would it be better to have my teeth pulled out to preserve any bone that remains. And is it possible if the bone loss is so severe that i may not be able to have dentures? This is my worst nightmare.
I have researched online and would like to know if periodontal laser therapy might be an option.

I do appreciate how busy you are but would so greatly appreciate any advice you are able to give me.
P.S I currently get help with NHS costs as although iam a professional I am a single parent. Thank you so much for taking the time to respond.

Hi,
My sympathy, having the teeth extracted will preserve bone if you have implants placed soon after. If you dont you will lose the bone anyway.
This does not change if you have dentures, which in fact also cause bone loss in the lower jaw at an accelerated rate.
Periodontal laser therapy does not have enough independent research to advise it as a viable treatment.
As for Nhs options , good luck with the hospital referral but a lot of patients get messed around.
