I have had severe pain after a deep tooth filling. I have been prescribed antibiotics and await my dental appointment. Can you advise?

Q. Hi Dr Patel, i had a deep filling 4days ago. on that same night i started to get very severe pain. I went back to my dentist and he said it has infection, so he has given me Amoxllin 500g to take 3times and ive been taking painkillers 3times to help the pain. the pain has gone down so its bearable but now when i drink hot or cold it triggers a throbing pain from the tooth.Im at the moment waiting for my course of antibotics to finsh and have an appoitment for Monday.oh and this was my first ever filling and it was a white filling.Thank u.,
A. You need to get the tooth assessed the filling may need to be replaced or you may need root canal treatment.

graham quinton Says :

I have tooth that has become very sensitive to hot and cold.
my dentist has suggested I rub sensodyne toothpaste.
How long should I continue this as if this does not work she has suggested I have deep root filing to have the nerve removed.
I had terrible experience some years ago when another dentist tried a similar thing and I experieced excrusiating pain.
Because of this i am more inclined to have the tooth removed.
Do you have any advice and are some aneathestics more effective than others?
