I have had root canal treatment on the same tooth and it is still infected, what should I do?

Q.
I have had root canal treatment on two teeth, one years old & one current after an infection developed in the root . The current treatment does not seem to have been successful after two or three attempts by my dentist. I am currently on a course of antiboitics (metronidazole) to try & finally clear the infection. If this is not successful my dentist says the tooth will have to be extracted. As this is an upper main molar I would like to retain the tooth. The old root canal tooth has also become sensitive again (lower molar) but my main concern is the current problem. Could you please offer a second opinion.

Kind Regards

A.
For a specific opinion an XRay would be helpful, Also referral to an specialist endodontist would be a option.
I would be happy to offer an informal opinion for the cost on an Xray (£6 each) if you are near Birmingham.
