I Have Had My Braces Off For Nearly A Year And I’ve Noticed My Gums Have Receded Quite A Bit. Can You Help Me Please?

Q.
Hi. I go to the dentist regularly for my check up and even had braces for almost 3 years. I have had my braces off nearly a year and have noticed recently my gums have receded quite a lot. My front right tooth has become loose and is getting looser as the days go by and is causing me pain now but didn’t before I brushed my teeth 3 times a day, sometimes more because I panic my teeth are going to fall out. I think I have gum disease but the dentist have never said anything about having gum disease and I used to go the dentist every 3 months sometimes before every 3 months to have my braces tightened and nobody said anything. I also went the dentist 2 weeks ago and my dentist still didn’t say anything about my gums being so low I have booked my self back in with the dentist and I’m scared in case they take my teeth out as I’m only 18 can you help please?

Hello. My advice is to get a second opinion about the health of your gums from a specialist periodontist as soon as possible – you may not have gum disease but it could just be recession as a consequence of the orthodontic treatment you had but best to get it checked out immediately. Try not to brush to hard as this can also cause recession. Kind regards, Mark.
