I Have Had Braces In The Past And My Bottom Jaw Has Come Forward. Will This Continue To Grow Out?

Q.
Hello Mark. I have a problem that I hope you can help me with. I have a reverse overjet of just over 2mm and I am 20 years of age. I want to solve this but I don’t want to get braces again. What do I do? I had braces before and 2 teeth were removed from my upper row and afterwards my teeth were left straight on top rather than in front so over time my bottom jaw has grown and come over. Will this continue to grow too? Are there any other solutions to this problem? Thank you, I look forward to hearing from you.

Hello and thank you for writing in. A 2mm overjet is within the average range and considered fairly normal. If you do not wish to have orthodontics treatment to correct the overjet you might also have to consider veneers on your lower teeth, if indeed this is possible as it may not be due to your bite. You should ask a very experienced cosmetic dentist who does orthodontics for the right advice. Kind regards, Mark.
