I Have Been Having Some Pain In My Temple And My Upper Left Jaw. Is This Caused By A Dental Problem?

Q.
Hello Dr Hughes. I have been having some pain in my temple, my upper left jaw, behind my ear and in addition I’ve been getting a burning sensation in my head. Additionally, when I put on my glasses I can feel a ‘tender’ spot over my ear. When I place a cold pack on the area it feels better but I can definitely feel the cold on the nerve which is highly annoying. My question is more about the burning pain in my head. Can that be generated from the nerve in my tooth? It would be great if you could help me clear this up. Thanks.

Hello. Thank you for getting in touch. Sometimes this can be from a tooth or it could also be from your jaw joint maybe, as with TMJ? My advice is to go for an examination in person to see if it is a dental problem or whether this has resulted from a wider health problem. There is no way for me to be certain on this matter without seeing you personally. I hope you get to the bottom of this problem. Best wishes, Mark.
