I have a crown that falls out every couple of months, what is the problem?

Q.
I have a crown with a post (upper) that keeps falling out every couple of months. To begin with I had no problems with it. I would like to know if there are a variety of posts? Is there a post that would anchor the crown securly? At present it seems that it is a kind of “glue” that is being used to fix the crown.
I look forward to hearing from you and thank you!

If the post fits well the gum should hold the crown. It sounds like there is a problem with the root, ask your dentist to take an x-ray to see if theres an underlying problem

I have had a crown fall off, and unlike my other crown it has a metal post, and the post inserts into a small amount of remaining tooth- what is this?

Hi Melina, I think its a post crown that fits inside the root.

Hello, I have a crown needing replaced as it not only fell out after beingin for 6 years but before putting it back in I noticed it was cracked and chipped so not looking as good as it did. I have it in to cover the gap in my teeth but I’d really like it replaced. I am not registered with any dentist and I really need it fixed, preferrably before Christmas. Would this bepossible? and how much would this be to get done? Also could you advise ona Dental Plan? Would really appreciate it if you could get back to me asap,

I was looking into dental implants instead. How much do they cause and what would there strength be like? Kind regards.

I have just had my upper left 3 break off. I have had a temporary fitted. There is not however enough tooth left to hold a crown for a long period oftime apparantly, but I could have the gum taken back but the dentiast thinks this is not a long term solution and I have been advised to maybe look atan implant, could you give me some idea re cost please.

My front tooth has had a crown inserted yesterday, I’m finding the bite is very odd and uncomfortable as the tooth directly under the crown keeps clipping in the back of the crown when I eat and close mouth. Also i was given a A1 shade crown but my original teeth are whiter, can the dentist tell their laboratory to make it lighter shade to match original? As the end result is identical to what shade it was before I had the root canal done. Your advice will be appreciated Thank you

If the underlying tooth structure (the root) is still sound then it may be possible for you to have the crowns replaced. If however the tooth structure is weakened and the teeth perhaps have a poor prognosis then dental implants may be a suitable option to replace them. Ask your dentist and I’m sure they will be able to give you the options. Regards

Regarding a single implant for my lower left premolar,If the placement of my implant is carried out this month the usual time for the restoration is three months. Is a healing cap used in this period ? Also if I cannot return for another 7 months for the crown restoration wll this cap hold good or could delay in crown restoration cause problem cheers

£ months is the right amount of time to wait but if let longer the healing cap shouldn’t pose any problems.
