I have a 9 mm overbite, are there any alternatives to jaw surgery?

Q.
I have 9 mm overbite (overjet). During my last visit to India i have braces and my orthodontics extract my two upper premolars in order to make space and he put braces only at upper teeth. I came back to denmark after 1 month and find an orthodontic for furthur treatment. The orthodontics here suggest that i need a jaw surgery instead extraction of premolars. while the jaw surgery will perform in hospital and it is free in denmark.
is there any alternate to jaw surgery , can braces done the job itself? I have deep overbite of 9 mm what would you recommend?
many thanx in advance

Surgery is often the best option option to correct a larger overbite tooth movement can only correct a certain amount of discrepancy. You should have surgery if you want to get the best possible outcome.

I have the same issue 9mm overjet and was wondering what treatment you ended up following through with? I’m also in the process of getting braces and was told durring the consult that he could do the orthodonticts without surgery but will he actually even know for sure before my mold’s and xrays are taken? Or will I pay the 300.00 downpayment and have him tell me I have to have surgery? I’m hoping I can just have extractions and push my teeth back. Was that an option for you? I just don’t want to pay this money and have a $12,000 jaw surgery as an only option. That would totally suck.

Hello. I think I may have a weak jaw that would require orthognathic surgery and when I have been researching this I have found that most / all of patients who have this surgery go through orthodontic treatment prior to the surgery to make sure their bite is correct post-op. I was wondering if thisis something that can be done and how much it could cost. thank you

Hello There, My lower jaw is slight shorter than the upper jaw because of which my profile is not straight. I was going through treatment in India butdiscontinued because I moved to the UK. I was wondering if I can continuethe treatment here. I would like to know the approximate duration and the cost of such a treatment. Kindly advise. Many thanks

Hi, I got into the habit of holding my jaw forward at all times as I had avery weak jaw/chin. Now when I bite it feels completely wrong and feels like teeth have slanted all over the place. My jaw appearance looks even worsewhen I bite now and just want to get it sorted.

Hi, My daughter is terrified of dentists has had braces in the past and had a check up the other day, One of her back teeth had broken slightly and the dentist applied a white filling. He then happened to mention that my daughter needed some exploration done into the soft tissue of all 4 of these teeth and it could be done under sedation as she is so nervous. I am a Nurse myself but have never heard of this, My daughter is terrifed of going for a check up so hearing this really upset her! The teeth are causing no problem to her at all. I would be interested to hear what you think

I’m not sure what this is but i guess your daughter has misheard the dentist. it would be good to give him a call to clarify the situation, depending on her age it might be the wisdom teeth he was talking about ?
