I Had A Bad Experience With Needles When I Was Young And I Haven’t Been Back Since. Are There Any Other Options For Phobia Patients?

Q.
Hello. I have not been near a dentist for over 20 years as when I was younger had a terrible experience with a certain needle in my gum. As I remember they made a right mess from and I have never forgotten this. I know I need quite a lot of work doing being 43, but I cannot bear the thought of that needle going into my gum and I’m not sure how I would react. Are there other options out there? I do not have any issues with needles elsewhere just in my mouth, your advise would be helpful. Thanks.

Hello and thank you for your enquiry. The best thing would be to go for a consultation with a dentist who has experience in dealing with dental phobia patients. Understanding some of the techniques we use could also ease your nerves. Some practices have various pieces of equipment such as The Wand which may be helpful to you. Many of the advances in dentistry today lead to a pain-free experience for most patients and the likelihood of your oral health getting worse only increases the longer you leave it. I hope this can help you. Regards, Mark.
