I don’t want my tooth extracted but I’ve been told by my dentist that root canal treatment would fail, any advice?

Q. I have been advised by my dentist that a back tooth needs to be removed (at the moment I have an abcess) but he is not recommending root canal treatment as he does not feel that it will be successful but is happy to refer me to a specialist in that field. I would obviously prefer to keep my tooth but he feels that the root canal treatment would not last and would need to be repeated with the eventual result of the tooth having to be removed. Any advise/recommendations would be much appreciated.,
A. Hi You can always seek a second opinion, but you would require an examination.
