I am still in pain after having a tooth extracted – why is this?

Q.
I have had a tooth extracted, and have been in constant pain, my question is I have a cap at the back, is it possible that although the tooth is dead, there could still be a nerve that you can not see ? and if there is can it be operated on without loosing it.
Thanks.

Hello.

Thank you for your enquiry.

If you have had your tooth out and are still experiencing pain which isn’t to do with your extraction, it could mean you have a problem with another tooth.

Once a tooth is root filled, this does not mean there is no possibility of the tooth getting re-infected, however, it is possible to re-root treat a tooth even one that has a crown on it. It may mean in the near future you will need to redo the crown; however this isn’t always the case.

The symptoms you are having does not mean you will definitely need the tooth removed. I would recommend that you visit your dentist, have the area x-ray and review exactly what the problem is and what your options are.

Thanks for your reply, I have seen a dentist, he said was the back tooth there was no infection showing, I went to Guys hospital and they sliced the socket area open again, they felt as I had like an electric shock in that area to touch, there may be something left in it, any way that was not the case, it took over a year to evan start to close up again, I have been treated for all kinds of things,. they are still not 100% sure what the problem is, but tio touch area with tounge is sensitive and sore, now they feel it is nerve damage, done by my dentist, if that is the case, will I ever be able to have an implant there ?
