I Am Scared My Teeth May Fall Out Due To My Receding Gums, What Can I Do?

Q.
Hi
I am 52 years old and have never smoked or drunk but I have got badly receding gums which according to my dentist is apparently due to the wrong type of brushing. My teeth are very sensitive and they feel loose. I am getting scared that they are going to fall out. I have regular check ups at my dentist but he just says that it is my own fault for brushing too vigorously and there is nothing that I can do. I was wondering if this is correct or if there are any procedures to stop the gums from getting any worse. If so could you possibly give me a rough idea of costs and where I could get any treatment. Many thanks.

Treatment of gum recession is difficult. I the teeth are firm without gum disease you may benefit from a referral to a gum specialist to look into grafting to improve their appearance. Other than that there isn’t much you can do except follow the advice of your hygienist to stop the recessions getting worse.
