I am having extreme pain in a tooth that has just been cleaned, what should I do?

Q.
I have extreme tooth pain after a pulpectomy/pulpotomy – I thought the pulp was cleaned out, why does my tooth still hurt so badly? It is a throbbing, aching pain, and the tooth is sensitive to to touch, biting etc., but the pain is still present without touching the tooth at all. I am waiting for a root canal to be completed, and have a temporary filling on the tooth. I had a cavity that was eating at the nerve in my tooth (which was broken in half). I had the pulpectomy/pulpotomy 4 days ago.

I would advise going back to the dentist who carried out the treatment as soon as you can. Alternatively a root canal specialist, called an endodontist, for a second opinion and assessment of the problem

Kind regards
