I Am Currently Suffering From Some Bone Loss, Does This Mean I Will Need Dentures As I Am 60 Years Of Age?

Q.
Hello Dr Shaffie, My question concerns my top jaw which is made up mainly of crowns and bridges that have been in added at different times over the last 20 years or so, and my dentist has told me there is getting to be a big gap between the crowns and the bone of my jaw under my gums. The bone is wearing away which seems to be the problem causing the gap. Does this mean I will have to have dentures or can something be done about this? I am now 60 years of age.  Thanks, I hope you can help me with my request in due time.

Hello. Unfortunately without a proper x-ray it is difficult to answer your question. It could be that you have got some gum recession, in which you may need to change your crowns if they don’t look good. You might need to see a gum specialist and he or she can tell you exactly what you need to do. We can give you a free consultation if you would like us to see to you. Many thanks, hopefully this helps, Dr Hussein Shaffie.
