I Am A Diabetic And My Dentist Tells Me My Teeth Are Loose Because Of This. What Can I Do?

Q.
Hello Dr Hughes. I am a Diabetic and I have 3 loose teeth can I have dental implants I receive Pension credit. I cannot get on with pallets, after my past experiences I find it very difficult to speak, I have been told being a diabetic is causing this problem. Can you help me with this? My own dentist has said he cannot do this as I have a gap in the front of my mouth and I am lisping all the time which is very embarrassing. I also sometimes find it difficult eating. Thank you for any advice you can offer me regarding this matter.

Hello and thanks for getting in touch. If your diabetes is stable and you and your mouth are very healthy then it may be possible to have implants. Why are your teeth loose – this sounds like periodontitis or gum disease? This should be eradicated first before you should have implants. Seek a hygienist if this is the case. I hope this answer helps you overcome your problems. Best of luck, Dr Mark Hughes.
