I am a diabetic and have gum disease

Q. Hi, I am a diabetic and have been very nervous of dentists for years and I had been putting off going. I plucked up the courage to go two weeks ago and the Dentist told me I have gum disease. Today the Hygenist told me that the bone is not where it should be on my front tooth, and is lower than normal. She said it should hopefully be ok with hygiene visits etc. I am very scared of what the outcome will be. If the tooth did have to be removed how quickly could I have a replacement fitted(don’t want to look in the mirror and see a huge gap) and what the best options are in cases such as mine? I am very, very nervous of dentists as it is but losing my front tooth fills me with fear and has dented my confidence massively. Please can you offer me some advice to put my mind at ease? Many thanks

A. Many thanks for your enquiry. it may be that you have lost alot of bone around your teeth, but if your hygienist is confident that the tooth will be ok please do not worry. worst case scenario would be to lose the tooth but this could be replaced with a dental implant, bridge, or denture. hope this is helpful. as long as you can bond with your dentist i feel your fear should also be dealt with.
