How Long Will This Tingling Pain Last After My Gingivectomy?

Q.
Hello Dr Moore. I recently had a gingivectomy on my upper left side of mouth for the very last tooth. I had a cracked tooth and my gum had gone sunk into the cavity of tooth. I believe it was from an old filling. How long does the tingling pain last after that? It was last week. Will I go back to get any real feeling in the next 3 weeks? It’s like a very annoying pain but not tearful pain. I have a high pain tolerance. My dentist told me there would be a pain like this, as if I had a paper cut on your finger but they didn’t say how long that would last. Thanks.

Hello and thank you for your enquiry. In this instance I would say the painful feeling would last about 1-2 weeks in total. If you continue to have this sensation you should go back and have your dentist have another look if it’s not improving. I hope this answers your question.
