How long will it take for my gums to settle down following apicoectomy surgery?

Q.
Dear Dr Kailesh
I have recently undergone an apiceptomy, however I am growing concerned because it has now been two weeks since the procedure and my gum where the apiceptomy was performed is very swollen and sore. Is this normal? if so how long is it before the swelling disappears.
A.
Thank you for your enquiry. It can take a few weeks for the gum to settle down after the surgery. You could try a mouthwash such as corsodyl or peroxyl alternatively use a hot salt mouthwash. If no improvement go back to the surgeon who performed the surgery.
