How Long Will It Take For Braces To Open Up A Gap For A Dental Implant To Be Fitted?

Q.
Hello there Dr Shaffie, when I was Twelve years old I had braces to open up a space. This space had to be opened up in order to compensate for my missing lateral incisors which had to be replaced with dental implants. Now I am Eighteen years old and have been told there is not enough space in the roots to place the actual dental implant and I have been advised to have even more orthodontic treatment, I am just wondering if I need the braces, then how long it would take to open up roughly 3/4mm of space for dental implants to be placed? Thanks, I really hope you can help me sort this problem out?

Hello and thank you for your enquiry, it’s always a pleasure to answer your questions. Based on what you have told me in your enquiry I would say it depends on the age and the case. It could possibly be around 5-6 month. For an implant we need 4-5 mm space. Thanks I hope this answers your question. Best Wishes, Dr Hussein Shaffie.
